Among many tactical shooters, Rainbow Six is a name that comes up often. Games of this series have been a perfect example of what a tactical shooter should be like.

However, tactical shooter fans will be disappointed to know that Lockdown is not like previous Rainbow Six games. The game is more action-oriented - a move made to please the console audiences, perhaps.

The premise of the game is the same: you lead a team of highly skilled, elite forces into a mission with aggressive enemies. You still can communicate with, and give various orders to, your teammates, like to break a door. Your objective as squadron leader of "Rainbow" (the elite counter-terrorist group) is to dismantle the operation of the Global Liberation Front. The story is good enough to keep you playing throughout the game. In general, the game is still a good one, however it is obvious that it was initially designed for consoles and exported to PC format. If you like first-person shooters with tactical elements, this game has a good formula. Nothing innovative or worth mentioning though. The game has been taken out of distribution by Ubisoft from their main store. However, due to the deal with Ubisoft and Valve, you can still find it in the Steam store at a bargain price of $9.99. If you are a fan of the series, this will keep you entertained, if you don't mind the lack of more tactical elements of the game.

Pros

  • The graphics are excellent

Cons

  • Moves away from the tactical game play from previous R6s
